For these concessions you must be a resident of South Australia.
If you have a low income, you could be eligible for various concessions from the South Australian Government. These concessions are managed by the Department of Human Services (DHS), through ConcessionsSA.
The South Australian Government provides some energy bill concessions for your main residence if you are on a low or fixed income. Additional information and the SA Government application form is available here.
From 1 July 2017, concessions are subject to annual indexation. This means that the concession rate will either increase in line with a positive indexation rate, or remain at the same level in the event of a zero percentage or negative indexation rate.
After determination of the indexation rate for 2025/2026, the annual energy concession rate from 1 July 2025 will increase to $281.78; the daily rate will therefore be $0.772 (GST exclusive).

The Medical Heating and Cooling Concession assists South Australians on a fixed or low income who have a clinically verified medical condition that requires the frequent use of heating or cooling in the home to stop their condition becoming severely worse.
This concession is $274.85 per year or $0.753 (GST excl.) per day. It is available to eligible applicants in addition to the current energy concession. It is paid directly to customers by the Department of Human Services.

The NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate, formerly known as the Energy Rebate, recently decreased to $285 per year, indexed annually on 1 July, or $0.7808 (GST excl.) per day.
The rebate is paid in instalments through each electricity bill. The exact amount of the rebate paid on each bill will depend on the number of days in each billing period.
The Low-Income Household Rebate is intended to assist eligible customers with all their household energy costs, gas and electricity, but is applied on the electricity bill only.

If you're currently receiving the Low-Income Household Rebate, you will not have to do anything and will automatically receive the increased rebate.

You may qualify if you're a NSW resident with an eligible Commonwealth Seniors Health Care Card (CSHC) issued from either Services Australia or the Department of Veterans' Affairs.
The Seniors Energy Rebate helps cover the cost of electricity for eligible independent retirees. The rebate is $200 per household, per year.

The life support concession provides additional financial support to customers who require the use of specific life support machines in their home.
The life support rebate can be received in addition to other assistance such as the NSW Government Low Income Household Rebate, the Medical Energy Rebate and the Energy Accounts Payment Assistance (EAPA) scheme.
If you have more than one type of life support machine in your home, you are eligible to receive more than one rebate. For this to occur, all machines prescribed by the patient's doctor must be included in the application. Rebates are calculated daily and are applied to each bill.
Customers don't have to be a concession cardholder to be eligible to receive this rebate. The supply address must be the primary place of residence for the person who needs the life support equipment.
Eligibility for the rebate is based on the following criteria:
If you have a life support machine that is eligible for the rebate or any other type of machine prescribed by a doctor for life support purposes, contact us.
We will register your life support equipment to make sure you are notified of any energy supply interruptions. Alternatively, complete our Life Support form and send it to us.
You need to re-apply for the life support rebate every few years. How often depends on if your rebate started before or after 1 July 2024.
When it is time to renew, we will send you a reminder with the life support rebate application form.

The ACT Government provides the Electricity, Gas and Water Rebate to assist eligible customers with energy costs. The rebate is applied through the customer's electricity account.

For primary card holders of a Low Income Health Care Card or Health Care Card, a new application must be made each time a new card is issued.
The rebate can only be claimed from the start date of the primary card holder's concession card.
The ACT Government provides an Electricity, Gas and Water Rebate to help eligible households reduce their utility costs. Eligible customers may receive an annual rebate applied to their electricity account in accordance with ACT Government guidelines.
